The Sunday Surf

This past week, I was reminded of the Global Warming series that I started last fall. I promise to work on the second installment (the present) over the next few weeks.

In the meantime, here are some interesting "green" links:

Ikea is discontinuing the use of plastic bags for free. It now costs 50 cents for each bag you take home.

Brown is getting more green. To reduce fuel consumption, and therefore CO2 emissions, they have eliminated using left hand turns. You can read about it here or listen about it here.

There's a new group blog in town (run by an inspirational group of crafty ladies), called sew green. Their mission is to get us all thinking AND acting more green. In their most recent post (3/22) they provide a link to this Wallet Buddy (PDF), which is a thought provoking list of questions to ask yourself before buying anything.

Daryl Hannah now has a video blog about the environment.

If you'd like a more research/academic point of view "going green", there is a good talk about the challenges of hydrogen fuel storage hosted by MIT World.

Now there's one more reason to love IKEA. I just wish grocery stores would follow suit, charging for plastic or paper bags instead of refunding 5 cents for each brought from home bag. There'd be a *big* change pretty quickly, I'm guessing. I love the sew green blog - many ideas beyond what we already do here, which is a good thing.

The left hand turn thing is shocking--who knew--I don't like to make them anyway because for me they are more dangerous and now I for sure won't. I have heard about the not spending on anything that is not necessary for a year and now the wallet buddy--I own a small boutique and my customer is not the spend, spend, spend type. My customer wants a gift for under $30.00 that has a purpose and I try really hard to give them that. So, I am all for this way of living and not spending more than you really can. I would love to get rid of my Credit Card Machine too and only take cash and checks.

I forgot to mention--I am sorry I did not get a chance to meet you on Friday night. Next Time
